The 3 Main Components of Interview Prep
Need to prepare for an upcoming interview, but don't know where to start?
Use the 3 'R's of interviewing!
These will adequately prepare for your nursing interview. All three are needed to be the most effective with your responses. So what are these three R's and why do you need them?
Reflect, Research, and Rehearse!
Let's break each down.
Reflection. This is your time to sit down and start thinking about what you bring to the table. Why are you a good fit for this position? I think it's helpful to physically write down these things while you reflect.
So what do you need to make note of?
- Education
- Certifications
- Qualities and personality traits
- Unique experiences
Research. You need to research the organization you've applied for. Go to the hospital website, or just do a google search of the healthcare system. What awards and accolades do they have? What are they known for? Are they a Magnet organization?
Get as much information as you can about the specific unit or floor you're applying for. See if there is information online. When you speak with the recruiter, get more information from them. They won't know as much as the manager of the department will, but they should still be able to give you some additional information about the floor.
Rehearse. You need to practice your interview responses - not memorize! You don't want to sound like a robot, but you do want your responses to flow naturally. Your confidence will increase once you have an idea of what you want to share for common interview questions.
Practice in the mirror. Recording yourself on your phone and watching it back can be helpful too. You can also write down interview questions, and give them to a friend and do a mock interview.
Follow the 3 R's before you next interview and you'll be much more prepared and confidence.
